China Corruption Blotter (October 17, 2014)

Zhong Xiangdong, former executive deputy chief of Guangzhou’s Baiyun District, was sentenced to 17 years in prison over bribery and embezzlement crimes. Zhong was convicted of accepting $348,300 in bribes and offering $174,252 to former Baiyun District party secretary Gu Wenyao in exchange for promotion. Zhong also embezzled $24,427 in public funds.
