China Corruption Blotter (October 30, 2013)

Zhou Binwen, the former party secretary of Midong District in Urumqi City, was sentenced to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to accepting gifts and bribes worth $965,780 from at least nine private enterprises. Zhou sought benefits from Xinjiang Hongtai Construction Engineering Group Co., Ltd, Xinjiang Wanzi Qianhong Construction, Installation Group Co., Ltd and seven other companies in exchange for bribes.

China Corruption Blotter (October 18, 2013)

The former president of a traditional Chinese medicine hospital in Anhui’s Fengtai Country was sentenced to five years in prison for accepting bribes worth $14,238 from four pharmaceutical companies and a construction contractor to help them promote their drugs and to obtain construction contracts. Identified in the indictment as bribe givers were Anhui Bangjie Medical Co. Ltd, Huainan Keli Medical Equipment Sales Co. Ltd, Hefei Jiacheng Medicine Co., Ltd and Huainan Hengkang Medicine Co., Ltd.

Ni Fake, former vice governor of Anhui Province, has been placed under investigation. Before being sacked in January this year, Ni was in charge of land, housing, and urban construction in the province. Ni reportedly granted mining permission and cash rewards to Dachang Mineral Group in exchange for bribes.
