Barbara Brooks Kimmel: Trust is the new currency for business success

Our Trust Alliance has just completed Phase #1 of a project called TAP INTO TRUST.

It's an acronym.

For example, TAP is:

Truth  We are honest and humble - we put the truth ahead of personal or professional gain.

Accountability  We hold one another accountable - we each take responsibility without regard to  level or role.

Purpose  We engage our stakeholders to build shared purpose - we avoid short term "wins" that undermine future success.

It took almost a year to arrive at twelve universal trust principles that can be applied in any organization of any size, anywhere. In addition to starting a trust “discussion” it’s possible that these principles might be useful in conversations about Codes of Ethics.

We are introducing it via the “Million Taps Campaign” on the home page of our website

The Principles are available in English, Spanish, French, Arabic, with more to come.

We are also seeking endorsers who want to add their organization’s name to a growing list who support the new Principles, and provide one example of how their organization practices at least one of the twelve.

These will be published in the summer issue of TRUST! Magazine. And speaking of TRUST! Magazine….The just published spring issue of TRUST! Magazine was coauthored with Bob Vanourek, a former CEO of several companies, and focuses on “Good Governance” having surveyed a cross section of directors, Board members and governance experts.

It’s hard to believe that Trust Across America-Trust Around the World (TAA-TAW) has been chipping away at trust for 10 years!

Our mission is to help enhance trustworthy behavior in organizations.

We like to think of ourselves as social innovators. We are neither a non-profit nor a profit-seeking entity - rather, we seek to be self-supporting through modest and voluntary fees for some of our services.

We are not trying to build a business around trust -- we are trying to help organizations become more trustworthy. Most of what we do is "open source" and our work cuts across organizational and disciplinary boundaries.

We seek to unite previously separate individuals and organizations under the common cause of furthering organizational trust.

When I discovered Trust Across America - Trust Around the World some seven years ago, little did I know that I had unearthed the most comprehensive clearinghouse of resources available for building trustworthy organizations. There are many cost-free activities managers and executives can employ that ultimately translates into greater profitability.
