The national average salary for a Chief Compliance Officer is nearly $132,000, according to Glassdoor, with some CCOs making more than $250,000 a year.

Glassdoor -- a site with job listings and company reviews -- shows 112 salaries for the CCO position. The site generally reports pay in ranges.

The CCO at Invesco, for example, makes $182,000 to $258,000, according to Glassdoor.

Pay for the AIG CCO is shown as $122,000 to $157,000.

Marsh & McLennan's compliance chief is making $149,000 to $188,000, Glassdoor reports.

The CCO salaries tracked on Glassdoor are fairly consistent with those reported by the SCCE.

According to the SCCE's comprehensive 2015 survey of CCO salaries, the nationwide base salary for CCOs averaged about $150,000 and total compensation averaged $179,000.

The SCCE mega-survey found that CCO pay depended on how many compliance personnel they managed, the size of the compliance budget, and the number of employees in the company, and other factors.

At the biggest companies -- 75,000 employees or more -- CCO base pay averaged $187,000 and total compensation was almost $229,000, the SCCE said.

At companies with under 250 employees, CCOs earned $111,000 in base salary and $128,000 in total compensation.

At companies with big compliance budgets -- more than $2 million -- CCO compensation topped out at $390,000 or more.

On Glassdoor, the CCO at Zimmer Bioment is shown as making $146,000 to $158,000.

At Johns Hopkins Medicine, the CCO is making $220,000 to $238,000.
