Richard Bistrong: One more cross examination about the Africa Sting

I'll be talking about the Africa Sting on October 26 at the FCPA Blog Conference in NYC. It will be the first time I've publicly discussed my role in the Sting.

The session at the conference is called The Other Side of the Sting; Getting Stung.

As I sat in Judge Leon’s courtroom as a cooperating witness for almost a calendar month of direct, cross, and re-directed testimony, I had a lot of issues thrown at me, from all sides.

I testified about uncharged conduct, personal behaviors, text messages to the FBI, and the specifics of monitored e-mails, videos, and telephone calls which were all entered in as evidence.

Dick Cassin will be my interlocutor at the NYC Conference. He wasn’t a fan of the Sting or my role in the prosecution's case, as he made clear many times.

But I recently thanked Dick for keeping an open mind about me when I marked my first anniversary as a Contributing Editor to the FCPA Blog.

So, unrehearsed and unscripted next week at the FCPA Blog NYC Conference, I'll sit down with him to look back at my role in the Africa Sting and what led to it. I'm sure we'll also be looking foward to what's ahead for enforcement and compliance.

I hope you’ll join us.
