Ye Pingdong, former chairman of Tianji Real Estate Development (Shenzhen) Co Ltd, was charged with bribery amounting to $8.1 million. Ye had bribed Zhou Weisi, the former chief of Nanlian village in city of Shenzhen, and Fan Shengming, a director of Shenzhen Taidejian Industrial Co Ltd, to win contracts for housing demolition projects. http://news.youth.cn

The Higher People’s Court of Hainan Province has upheld the verdict handed to Qiu Tao, former general manager of state-run South China Sea Fishing Industry Group Co Ltd. Qiu had been sentenced to 14 years in prison last year for taking 11 bribes totaling $388,564. In exchange, he handed out fishing development projects and land transfers. Qiu also used fake identification to open two bank accounts to deposit the illicit money. He had pleaded not guilty and appealed his sentence to the higher court. http://www.legaldaily.com.cn

Li Zhu, former director of Beijing River and Lake Management Department, was sentenced to death with a two-year stay of execution for embezzling $7.9 million and accepting more than $1.8 million in bribes. Li accepted 10 bribes including cash, houses and luxury cars from 10 enterprises in exchange for water engineering projects. Beijing Lvshidian Landscape Architecture Co., Ltd and Beijing Duen Engineering Co., Ltd are among the bribe-givers identified by the court. http://epaper.ynet.com

Lu Weiping, former vice president of state-owned Chongqing Textile Holding (Group) Company, has been sentenced to 11 years and six months in prison for bribery. Chongqing disciplinary authorities said Lu accepted $305,235 in bribes, held shares in his relatives’ companies and helped his relatives obtain business contracts. Chen Ruixi, vice mayor of Sanming city in southeast China’s Fujian province, has been sacked for causing the death of a government official from excessive drinking in a banquet. The unnamed official died after accompanying Chen to a dinner hosted by a private enterprise which negotiated with local government over investment projects. Lin Zhaonao and Lyu Yongqing, former acting chief and deputy chief of Shaxian County, received disciplinary warnings for participating in the banquet. http://www.chinadaily.com.cn

Zhou Guangrong, former chief of Public Health Bureau in southwest China’s Chengdu city, was sentenced to 14.5 years in prison for bribery. Zhou solicited $73,471 in bribes from Xu Zuo, a former employee of Chengdu Liquefied Natural Gas Co Ltd. Zhou and Xu colluded with He Jie, former president of Chengdu Ninth People’s Hospital, to grant a hospital construction project to a contractor in exchange for $659,826 in bribes. Zhou and Xu were handed 13.5 and 10 year jail terms respectively over bribe-taking. http://fanfu.people.com.cn
