Summary: At least nine people have been detained in a corruption probe centering on Mahesh Kumar's alleged attempts to buy himself a Railway Board post with oversight of lucrative contracts. Kumar is accused of colluding with several suppliers, including G G Tronics managing director Narain Rao Manjunath, to raise $2.3 million in bribe money. The scheme unraveled when investigators caught Vijay Singla, nephew of railway minister P K Bansal, accepting part of the payment. Bansal has denied any business ties to Singla.
