Sleaze In The Cinema -- The Ambassador

We haven't seen the film yet but we plan to.

It's a documentary, both funny and deadly serious, about blood diamond smuggling, bribery, and murder.

The distributor's release says The Ambassador 'exposes the corrupt business of selling diplomatic titles to exploit the lucrative and limited resources of war torn, third world nations.'

The movie was made by journalist Mads Brügger (Sundance Grand Jury Prize winner for Red Chapel). He puts himself in incredibly dangerous situations in the Central African Republic.

Brügger said, 'I want to show an Africa stripped of NGOs (non-governmental organizations), Bono, child soldiers and kids with bloated bellies, to show the kind of people you never see in the documentaries: white businessmen and diplomats, the fat cats in the urban centers, all the people who are in post-colonial Francafrique (French Africa) having a great time.'

It's available on iTunes.

Readers are welcome to send in short reviews -- a couple of hundred words or so.

Meanwhile, we'll be looking this week at the bigger topic of conflict minerals.

Coming up: What, Then, Are Conflict Minerals?
