Former CNPC boss jailed 16 years for corruption


Former China National Petroleum Corporation chief Jiang Jiemin was sentenced to 16 years in prison Monday after he pleaded guilty to a slew of corruption charges earlier this year.

Former China National Petroleum Corporation chief Jiang Jiemin was sentenced to 16 years in prison Monday after he pleaded guilty to a slew of corruption charges earlier this year.
Hundreds of inspectors from the National Audit Office (NAO) have been sent to the State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC), the country’s largest state-owned electric utility company, to conduct accountability audits of the company’s top management.
Yang Semao, deputy chief of Wukan Village, Guangdong province, was detained for allegedly taking bribes from public projects in the village. Yang admitted via his microblog Weibo account that he took bribes of $3,263 but donated them to a local school. He has been bailed out to prepare for the upcoming election of the village’s new leadership. Hong Ruichao, another deputy village chief, has also been detained on the same charge. http://news.sohu.com
Wu Yongwen, former deputy director of the Standing Committee of Hubei Provincial People’s Congress, has reportedly been placed under investigation after his mistress’s husband told authorities Wu took bribes and led an “indecent life.”
