China Corruption Blotter (June 6, 2014)

Liang Yaohui, chairman of the Crown Prince Hotel in Guangdong’s Dongguan City, has been stripped of his post as deputy to the National People’s Congress and arrested by police for violation of laws. Liang’s hotel was found to be involved in underground sex trade during Dongguan’s crackdown on prostitution. Liang is also the chairman of Petrochemical Source Center (International) Co Ltd. http://epaper.jinghua.cn

Liu Zhenxing, former head of Meilie district in Sanming city, Fujian province, was expelled from the party and removed from public office for corruption. Liu was accused of accepting bribes, embezzling public funds and keeping mistresses. Wang Shaoyun, a local female teacher who alleged to be Liu’s mistress, fell to her death from Liu’s office window in early April. Wang had reported Liu’s misconducts to discipline authorities before she died. http://www.chinadaily.com.cn

Shen Weichen, party secretary and executive vice president of the China Association for Science and Technology, has been removed from post for violating party discipline and laws. Shen had reportedly given favors to real estate developers in land allocation and project approval during his time in Shanxi province. Shen also allegedly has extramarital affair with a female singer. http://news.jinghua.cn  

Zhao Miao, chief of Organization Department under the Chengdu municipal party committee in Sichuan province, was taken away for questioning by discipline authorities. Details of the investigation into him were not released. Sources said that Zhao, an oil veteran with the state oil company PetroChina, could be linked to the oil executives and tycoons who are being investigated for corruption. http://jingji.21cbh.com 

Yang Huajie, former public security chief of Linquan County, Anhui province, has been sentenced to 16 years in prison for taking bribes worth $348,422 from his subordinates and offering $48,881 in bribes to his senior in exchange for promotion. http://news.xinhuanet.com

Yang Xianjing, former deputy head of the Anhui Provincial Department of Land and Resources, stood trial for bribery and abuse of power. Yang allegedly took $2.7 million in bribes from mining investors to illegally grant them mining permits, causing a loss of $304 million in state assets. The chairman of Anhui Dachang Mining Group, Ji Lichang, was identified as the major bribe-giver in the case. http://epaper.jinghua.cn
