Texas pol took cash, electronics, and a pick-up truck

Kristopher Michael Montemayor, a county commissioner for the Webb County Commissioners in Texas, pleaded guilty to bribery Thursday in U.S. District Court.

Montemayor admitted soliciting and accepting bribes while serving as county commissioner in exchange for promising to perform official acts, the DOJ said Thursday.

Montemayor accepted three separate bribes totaling $11,000 and over $2,700 in electronics equipment from an undercover law enforcement agent posing as a businessman.

Montemayor promised to use his office to help promote the undercover agent's business in exchange for the money and equipment.

The politician also accpeted the use of a new 2012 Ford F-150 truck, which costs about $37,015, in exchange for promising to provide government jobs to both the vehicle owner and his spouse.

The truck owner and his wife landed jobs with Webb County that paid him $26,000 and the wife $45,553.

Montemayor's sentencing is scheduled for October 7, 2014 in U.S. District Court in Laredo, Texas.
