China Corruption Blotter (January 8, 2013)

Ningxia Autonomous Region Forestry Bureau director Wang Delin was sacked and expelled from the Party for corruption. A short notice from the Ningxia Commission for Discipline Inspection said Wang was also found to have fabricated evidence to accuse some colleagues of disciplinary violations. http://news.sina.com.cn

Wang Yaping, younger brother of former Beijing Local Taxation Bureau director Wang Jiping, was sentenced to 11 years for aiding his brother’s corrupt dealings. Older Wang was sentenced to death (with two years reprieve) in May 2012 for corruption involving $2.37 million, and younger Wang allegedly took bribes of $143,757. http://news.cn.yahoo.com

Former Agricultural Bank of China Lingao (Hainan Province) branch deputy president Chen Jianxue got life imprisonment for embezzling $3.36 million. The court found Chen guilty of using fake loan applications and illicit bank-account transfers. In November 2011, Chen gave himself up to authorities after eight years on the run. http://www.zj.xinhuanet.com

A cashier responsible for outpatient charges at Nanxishan Hospital (Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region) identified only as Tan was sentenced to ten years for embezzling $197,000 from the hospital from 2006 to 2011. Tan was said to have replaced the money amounts on 351 copies of patient receipts with lower amounts and pocketed the difference. http://news.sohu.com

Zhong Xuezhou, former chairman and general manager of Guangzhou Jiufo Electric Co. Ltd., was recently sentenced to death (two years reprieve) for corruption involving more than $23.3 million. Zhong was found guilty of embezzling shares of the company during its restructuring, misappropriating company assets, forging and destroying accounting records, and paying bribes. http://news.xinhuanet.com

Li Yuntian, former Nanhai District (Foshan City, Guangdong Province) Water Conservancy Bureau director, has been charged with several counts of corruption involving more than $1.44 million. Li allegedly took bribes from 13 individuals to award contracts and projects and embezzled public funds for personal use. http://gd.sina.com.cn
