New problems for EADS after office raids

German police raided and searched the German offices of EADS Tuesday.

Sources said the raid was connected to an investigation into the defense contractor's sale of military aircraft to Austria.

In the U.K., the Serious Fraud Office is reportedly waiting for approval to launch a full investigation that could lead to a prosecution of EADS and senior executives.

The SFO completed  a preliminary probe into claims of illegal payments linked to GPT, a subsidiary of EADS. The company won a £2 billion communications contract in Saudi Arabia to upgrade the royal guard's communications systems.

EADS -- the European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company -- is based in the Netherlands. It is Europe's biggest aerospace and defense firm. A division makes the Airbus and competes with Boeing.

The AP said EADS spokesman Gregor von Kursell confirmed that searches had taken place in offices in Germany.
